The Phoenix Scrolls Blog is part of a fictional fantasy universe. There will be other books and elements to come as the stories are more fleshed out. This blog specifically deals with the history and language of this fictional universe, along with other side travels and short stories. Be on the lookout for full-sized novels and other stories to come in the future, but for now, enjoy the taste of stepping into my world, piece by piece, as it evolves.
About the author:
Tyler A. Cox is a husband and father of 7 and lives in the Dallas area. He works at Gateway Church, helping out at the Grand Prairie campus.
Tyler has always been inspired by such writers as J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. Most of his growing-up years, he loved to delve into those fantasy worlds, yet was aware that they were just that, fantasy.
However, Tyler had a hard time reading. He could read okay; he just read slower than most of his classmates. He was diagnosed with a very moderate case of dyslexia at a young age and, at that time, was just instructed that he would have to work harder to keep up with others in his class.
With this in mind, being a writer had never occurred to him. He loved hearing the stories of great authors but never thought of writing himself. That is until the summer of 2014 at age 31 when he was inspired by the idea of a story about a phoenix. He wrestled with the thought for a while, thinking it would be a great story and that someone should write it. Then the idea came back as if to say, “You could write this story.” “No,” he said to himself, “I’m not qualified to write such a great story.” Again, the thought kept coming to him, “You COULD write this story.” Until ultimately he agreed that there was absolutely no reason that he could not write this story.
And thus began his passionate pursuit to write the story that was laid upon his heart. But more than just a story, it is a whole universe that Tyler hoped to create someday. He shares a similar love of language that Tolkien once did, and it is his hope that a similar attention to detail can be found in his writings.
